School of Foreign Languages of Huazhong University of Science and Technology offers undergraduate degrees in 5 majors, namely English Language & Literature, Japanese Language & Literature, German Language & Literature, French Language & Literature and Translation. The College English Teaching Center is in charge of the foreign language teaching of the whole university. The school has one authorized primary master program (Master of Language & Literature), and four authorized secondary master programs (Master of Linguistics & Applied Linguistics, English Language & Literature, Japanese Language & Literature, German Language & Literature) as well as one MTI program (Master of Translation and Interpretation). Besides, there is also one authorized secondary doctoral program (Comparative Study on Chinese and Foreign Language Culture). Moreover, “Foreign Languages & Literature” is the key discipline of Hubei Province.
There are in total 164 full-time teachers in the school, including 17 professors and 69 associate professors, nine of them are doctoral supervisors and 30 of them are master supervisors. We have one “Outstanding Teacher of Hubei Province” and two top teachers of our university. Moreover, two of the professors hold a post in Teaching Steering Committee of Foreign Languages, CET-4 and CET-6 Examination Committee of Ministry of Education as well as English Professional Steering Committee. There are three professors respectively serve as a member of the China Bilingual Lexicography Committee, China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese as well as a permanent member of Hubei Foreign Literature Association.
Among all the courses, there are two national excellent courses, namely “College English” and “English-Chinese Translation” which have been upgraded as national excellent resources sharing courses. Also, we have three provincial excellent courses, two of which have been identified as provincial quality resources sharing courses. In addition, there are eleven flagship courses and one high-quality video open course as well as one top-quality public selective course for the whole university.
The school houses a range of advanced teaching and research facilities .There are seven research centers including Foreign Language Education Research Institute, Linguistic Research Center, Translation Research Center, and Comparative Culture/Literature Research Institute as well as Country/Region Research Center, Japanese Culture Research Center and German Culture Research Center. Besides, there are Simultaneous Interpretation Laboratory, Computer-aided Translation Laboratory, Interpretation Training Platform and Language Learning Demonstration Center of Hubei Province.
