Center for Translation Studies

Center for Translation Studies (CTS) boasts of a distinguished academic team of fourteen members which is reasonably age-grouped and well-qualified, including three professors, four associate professors, as well as three doctoral supervisors and six postgraduate supervisors. Six of them have gained doctorates and another four are PhD candidates. Some celebrated scholars in translation and interpreting studies home and abroad have also been invited as part-time professors to share their ideas and insights with CTS members and postgraduates.

 Supported by the School  of Foreign Languages, CTS is establishing itself as a distinctive translation research institute with advantageous features in the following research areas:

    1) EST translation studies

    2) News translation studies

    3) Empirical study of translation teaching

    4) Corpus-based translation studies

    5) Literary translation criticism

    6) Translation of classics

    7) Translators studies

    8) Linguistic philosophy and translation

    9) Empirical study of interpretation teaching

CTS has been sparing no efforts on academic exchanges for teachers and postgraduates as well as in promoting studies both in translation research and translation teaching. Translation workshops, forums and conferences have been and will be held to create a favorable research atmosphere and form sound interactions in translation studies and teaching.

During the past five years, CTS researchers have presided and accomplished many remarkable research projects funded at various levels such as one project supported by National Social Science Foundation of China, one supported by the Minister of Education and several others supported by HUST and Hubei province while many others are still in progress. The team has also authored and coauthored four National Programmed Textbooks, two monographs and one dictionary. The past years have also witnessed the establishment of one National Quality Curriculum and one National Program of Web-Delivery for Elaborate Course as well as a host of publications by CTS members in multi-leveled academic journals both at home and abroad.
